American rapper Dequantes Lamar, widely known as Rich Homie Quan, has passed away at the age of 33.
The Atlanta-based artist, who gained fame in 2013, reportedly died in Georgia on Thursday.
In an official statement, the Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed that Atlanta’s Grady Memorial Hospital informed them of the rapper’s death.
The statement also noted that the exact cause and circumstances surrounding his passing are still unknown, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
The statement read, “On Thursday, 5 September 2024, the Fulton County Medical Examiner was notified by Grady Memorial Hospital of the death of Dequantes Devontay Lamar.
“An autopsy has been scheduled for Friday, 6 September 2024.”
Rich Homie Quan was born in Atlanta on October 4, 1989. He gained recognition in the 2010s for his contributions to trap music and collaborations with prominent artists such as Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz, YG, Young Thug, and Trinidad James.
Known for delivering music with raw emotion and powerful energy, Quan quickly rose as a notable figure among a new wave of rappers.
His breakout hit, “Type of Way,” debuted in 2013 and reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, marking a significant moment in his career.
