The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority has expressed concerns about safety violations by Nigerian carrier, Air Peace.
The UK CAA sent a letter to Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority, highlighting alleged violations of aviation safety regulations by Air Peace, just three months after the airline began its Lagos-London route, triggering a price war among carriers.
The UK CAA forwarded two incident reports regarding Air Peace to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority.
In response, the NCAA has written to Air Peace seeking clarification on the issues raised.
The letter from the NCAA, signed by General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani, highlighted concerns about the lack of operational approval for Electronic Flight Bag functions, which affects the safe operation of aircraft.
The captain of the flight in question admitted to using an Electronic Flight Bag for navigational purposes.
NCAA went further that the CAA in its letter said that there was “no mounting device for the use of EFB, no charging points or battery for backup.”
As of the time of filing of this report, Air Peace has not issued a response to the UK CAA’s concerns.
The airline began operations at London Gatwick from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on April 25, under Nigeria’s Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the UK.
Air Peace’s CEO, Allen Onyema, has previously raised concerns about alleged internal and external conspiracies against Nigerian airlines.
