Medical students of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, are currently staging a protest at the office of the Chief Medical Director over the prolonged lack of electricity and water in their halls of residence.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the CMD, Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, are meeting with stakeholders in the institution’s Conference Room to discuss solutions to the persistent power outage.
The PUNCH reported that UCH has been without power since October 2024, leaving the facility in darkness for more than 100 days as of Monday.
The protesting students carried placards with various inscriptions, including “+100 Days of Darkness: Save UCH; Save ABH Hall; Save Falade Hall; Give Us Light; This Is Not How We Want To Live; Medical School Is Hard Enough – Give Us Light; All We Are Saying, Give Us Light.”
Former President of the University of Ibadan Students Union Government, Samson Samuel, and a former Speaker of the UI Students Union, Olamide Omotunde, who are both medical students, expressed their frustrations over the situation.
Samuel stated, “No light, no water. We shall continue this protest until our demands are met.”
