Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat has been found dead in Kenya.
Local media stated that the athlete was murdered by yet-to-be-identified individuals.
“An investigation has been launched and officers are on the ground pursuing leads,” local police commander Stephen Okal told reporters in Eldoret.
He said Kiplagat’s body had a deep knife wound to his neck, suggesting he was stabbed.
Kiplagat, aged 34 and originally from Kenya, had competed for Uganda on the global stage in the 3,000m steeplechase, participating in numerous Olympic Games and World Championships.
On Saturday night, his lifeless body was discovered in a vehicle at the periphery of Eldoret, situated in the Rift Valley—a town known for being a residence to numerous athletes.
