Niclas Fullkrug scored a magnificent first-half goal to secure a 1-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund against Paris St-Germain in a thrilling first leg of their Champions League semi-final.
The German striker superbly controlled a long ball with his right foot before firing a left-footed shot into the net in the 36th minute.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, PSG failed to register a shot on target, while Dortmund created several scoring opportunities.
PSG forward, Kylian Mbappe came close to equalizing in the second half, hitting the inside of the post with a curling effort, and Achraf Hakimi also struck the woodwork shortly after.
Dortmund had chances to extend their lead, with Fullkrug missing a golden opportunity from close range after a brilliant run by Jadon Sancho.
Marcel Sabitzer was also denied by a superb save from Gianluigi Donnarumma just before half-time.
PSG improved after the break, with Mbappe and Hakimi both hitting the woodwork, but they were unable to find a way past Dortmund’s defense.
Ousmane Dembele missed a late chance to equalize for PSG, while Fullkrug felt he should have been awarded a penalty for a push in the back.
However, it was Jadon Sancho who stole the show with his outstanding performance.
Sancho was instrumental in Dortmund’s victory, setting up Fullkrug for what should have been a straightforward finish shortly after the goal.
Unfortunately, Fullkrug missed the chance, blazing the ball over the bar. Sancho continued to impress, combining well with Julian Brandt, but a poor touch from Brandt denied him another clear opportunity on goal.
The 1-0 win leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the second leg at Parc des Princes.
