The Public Relations Officer of the University College Hospital, Ibadan, Funmi Adetuyibi, has addressed reports circulating on social media about a fire outbreak at the hospital, describing them as exaggerated.
According to The PUNCH, Adetuyibi responded to online reports that had gone viral, clarifying that the incident was a minor one.
According to her, the fire occurred early Sunday morning due to an electrical spark at the changeover box in the Medicine Laboratory, located on the third floor of the hospital. She emphasized that the situation did not disrupt hospital operations.
Adetuyibi noted that the images of the fire circulating online were not of UCH and did not accurately reflect the scale of the incident.
“The fire was restricted to the changeover panel in one of the laboratory rooms, and there was no significant damage,” she said. “It was swiftly extinguished by hospital staff, with timely assistance from the Fire Service.”
She added that under the leadership of Chief Medical Director Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, UCH has implemented precautionary measures to prevent future occurrences.
The hospital management assured the public that the facility remains safe for patients and staff, and expressed gratitude for the support the hospital continually receives.
The fire occurred around 8:10 a.m., and according to UCH officials, no lives or property were in danger during the incident.
