The United Arab Emirates has issued an arrest warrant for a man who was captured on camera boastfully ordering an auto salesperson to sell him the most costly vehicles in the garage.
The movie mocks and criticises Emirati society, says a report by the government-run news agency WAM, and it stirs up negative public sentiment among the populace.
In the trending video, an Asian man dressed as an Emirati is seen attempting to purchase a $545,000 car as well as other vehicles while being flanked by individuals holding significant amounts of cash.
He said, “What is the most expensive car here? Okay. I want the Mercedez, rolls royce and the Red Bull sports car.
In the meantime, the UAE’s Federal Prosecution for Combating Rumours and Cybercrimes has ordered the man’s detention pending further investigation after he was accused of abusing the internet to post provocative propaganda that stirs public opinion and damages the public interest.
In addition, he was accused of publishing content that violated media content standards and insulted Emirati society.
The UAE Attorney General’s Office F.B.I. also claimed to have watched a social media film in which the accused was seen dressed in traditional Emirati garb and accompanied by two men carrying what looked like substantial amounts of cash.
The man was seen “arrogantly” negotiating with the store owner to purchase a luxury vehicle costing more than $545,000 (almost AED2 million).
He was allegedly caught on camera in the United Arab Emirates by the FBI handing out cash bonuses to showroom staff in a way that betrays a lack of fiscal responsibility and an inability to appreciate the worth of money.
“The video promotes a wrong and offensive mental image of Emirati citizens and ridicules them, and then incites and provokes public opinion, which harms the public interest.
“The Public Prosecution ordered the summoning of the owner of the car showroom in which the aforementioned video clip was filmed.”
In order to avoid legal repercussions, the UAE’s Public Prosecution has issued a call to action to the country’s social media users, urging them to take into account the societal characteristics and embedded values of the UAE society, which demand moral commitment in all aspects of behaviour.
