Two Nigerian-Canadians have won their respective wards in the just concluded Canadian councillorship election.
The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Kafayat Oluwatoyin Dabiri-Erewa, made this know via her verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.
Punch Metro gathered that Nana Khadijah Mamudu-Haliru who is of Nigerian descent contested and won in Ingersoll Town Council in Ontario.
Also, Ayo Owodunni, a first time contestant, was elected the councillor in Kitchener Council, also in Ontario, Canada.
The NIDCOM chairman said, “One of our own has done it. Nigerian in Diaspora. Nana Khadijah Mamudu-Haliru has done us proud.
“She contested for councullorship in Ingersoll of Ontario council in far away Canada and has won..Congrats.”
On the second Councilor-elect, Owodunni, Dabiri-Erewa said, “Congrats, Ayo Owodunni on winning your election as a Councilor in Kitchener, Canada. And more so , this is the first time of contesting. Another heartwarming news #ProudlyNigerian.”
