Two Nigerian women, Eva Omaghomi and Elizabeth Anionwu stole global spotlight at the coronation of King Charles III in the United Kingdom.
The two women caught the attention of the global community with their stunning African attire showcasing the Nigerian tradition.
Anionwu, is an Emeritus Professor , who was the first UK-based sickle cell nursing specialist.
While Omaghomi, is considered as the longest black staff who has ever worked for King Charles and Queen Camilla when he was the Prince of Wales and she was the Duchess of Cornwall for 13 years.
In 2021, Charles created the position of director of community engagement and nominated Eva Omaghomi to it in an effort to increase cultural variety among royal households.
For the occasion, she wowed in what appeared to be a peach gown by Ghanaian designer Durba Serwa, or at least a gown inspired by the fashion house’s rectangular gown designs. She wore peach-colored stilettos and a peach-colored gele.
During her investiture at Buckingham Palace, she donned the traditional Yoruba gele and buba.
While Anionwu was dressed in a blue lace blouse, blue lace skirt, and a white gele.
A Facebook user, Adamas Hsm while commending Omaghomi, wrote, “I love her…… She is proudly African and looking majestically royal. We should be proud and comfortable in our skin and clothes.. She got noticed because she chose to wear this beautiful attire.. Thumbs up to her”
Another Facebook user identified as Nasiru Ige Salihu also wrote, “She is among the few that still gives Nigeria recognition all over the world. Down here is not funny the way things are been run.”
Also while commending Anionwu, a Facebook user identified as Donna Thomas wrote, “She looked resplendent. That hat and dress are beautiful!”.
Nedd Achiche also commented, “Dame Elizabeth Anionwu.Igbos putting Nigeria on the world map.”
