No fewer than two persons have been reported to have drowned in two separate communities in Jigawa State.
According to The PUNCH, this was confirmed by the Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Adamu Shehu, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said the bodies of the deceased were recovered by the NSCDC personnel.
He said the two corpses were victims of separate incidents in the Buji and Kaugama local government areas of the state.
Shehu said, “The body of 30-year-old Zahraddeen Yusuf of Lafia village, Madabe Ward, Buji LGA, was recovered on Monday at a local pond called Ruwan Kidibo after he tried to cross the water with his brothers on Saturday to reach his farm.
“Also in Kaugama LGA, NSCDC officials received a report of a drowning incident of a 15-year-old boy, Anas Hamza, at Garin Badde, Marke Ward, Kaugama LGA.
“The victim was returning home from the farm when he decided to take a bath from a nearby pond, and unfortunately, he was drowned and later, his shoes and clothes were sighted by the pond side.”
Shehu said a search and rescue mission was launched with assistance from the locals which eventually led to the discovery of the two dead bodies.
