Two people reportedly died during a clash between okada riders and task force on Sunday night in Asaba, Delta State.
The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Bright Efafe, confirmed the incident, noting that the unrest recorded on Monday was a fallout of the altercation.
Edafe explained that the motorcycle riders were protesting against the fatal altercation by damaging property and assaulting individuals, resulting in the police to deploy officers to control the situation.
“There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had an issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.
“They mobilised in their numbers this morning, destroying property and beating people. Hence, our men were deployed to control the situation before it turned into something else,” he wrote.
A videos circulating on social media revealed a state of chaos reported to be happening at Okpanam Road axis, Midwifery, in Asaba.
One of the videos showed a scene where policemen fired gunshots, while another video showed a group of people blocking the road with motorcycles.
