A ghastly car accident along the Kiyawa-Jahun road in Jigawa State has resulted in the death of two passengers after an overspeeding bus rammed into a tree.
This was disclosed on Friday by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa Command, Adamu Shehu.
According to The PUNCH, the incident involved a grey Toyota bus with the registration number MGM435XA, which was transporting passengers to Maiduguri, Borno State.
He went on to say that the accident happened on Kiyawa-Jahun Road and killed two passengers, a male and a female.
“On Thursday, 6th of October, 2022, at about 0600hrs, the accident occurred around Katika village when the driver lost control of the vehicle as a result of overspeeding, thereby colliding with a tree by the roadside,” he said.
The accident victims were reportedly sent to a primary health care facility in Kiyawa LGA after being quickly evacuated, according to an NSCDC spokesman.
“Sadly, two were certified dead while others, including the bus driver, sustained various degrees of injuries and were referred to Federal Medical Centre Azare, in Bauchi State,” he revealed.
He identified the names of the deceased as Muhammad Atiku, 27; and Cecilia Peter, 21.
Shehu added, “Saddened by the incident, the command enjoined the motoring public to always drive with caution, avoid overspeeding and other road traffic violations.”
