Amid the ongoing controversies trailing the death of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, popularly known as Mohbad, Nigerians have taken to various social media platforms to express their thoughts about recent photos of Matthew Aderoju, popularly known as DJ Splash.
DJ Splash, is a disc jockey formerly signed to Naira Marley’s record label who is allegedly battling mental illness.
The case of DJ Splash gained public attention after the tragic passing of Mohbad, who was previously affiliated with the same record label.
In a recently surfaced video, Splash’s mother pointed accusing fingers at Naira Marley, alleging that he had a detrimental impact on her son’s life and subsequently abandoned him.
She explained that the issues began in 2021 when her son, DJ Splash, emerged as the winner of a competition, receiving a cash prize of N100,000.
She further narrated that following his victory, DJ Splash gained popularity among numerous celebrities who began inviting him to various events. It was during this time that he crossed paths with Naira Marley and Zlatan, sharing moments of dancing together.
She explained that Naira Marley expressed interest in having DJ Splash live and work with him. Initially, she opposed this arrangement, stating her desire for her son to attend university before pursuing a career in music. In response, Naira Marley agreed to support her son’s education.
However, at a later point, DJ Splash contacted her and requested that she pick him up from Naira Marley’s residence in the Lekki area of Lagos State, where they were both residing.
She expressed her distress over the deteriorating health of DJ Splash since she removed him from Naira Marley’s residence.
She mentioned that her son has been consistently unwell, leading to frequent hospitalizations. She also mentioned concerns about his memory loss and overall mental well-being, although she did not specify whether any medical diagnosis had been made regarding his condition.
She said that DJ Splash had become so ill that she had sold everything to pay for his medical bills at numerous hospitals, and that her son had refused to take medication advised by physicians, insisting instead on those from Naira Marley.
This revelation prompted Nollywood actress, Iyabo Ojo, to visit the ailing DJ Splash at his residence in Lagos.
The Nollywood actress shared clip of the visit through her Instagram live, which prompted various reactions from members of the public, many of which were comments about the physical appearance of DJ Splash.
She could be heard saying: “We are going to see to it that he gets proper treatment and justice. We failed Mohbad in life but we won’t fail him in death.
“But DJ Splash is alive and we are not going to fail him in life. And he’s not going to die for he will live to declare that which the Lord has prepared for him to do.
“His mother will eat the fruit of her labour over him. His brothers will enjoy benefits from him. He will get married, give birth, and do all the things men do. This one is not the enemy’s scapegoat but a thorn in their flesh.
“The right authorities are going to take up your story and you’re well protected. Everybody is going to protect you. The whole of Nigeria will take care of you. So, mummy, you’re not the only one that gave birth to DJ Splash. We all gave birth to him and we all would take care of him.
DJ Splash was given the opportunity to speak briefly, and while some of his words were difficult to decipher, he conveyed a sense of being cornered and enduring challenging experiences. He expressed gratitude, saying, “But we thank the Lord. I thank Father, I thank God.”
A tweep identified as @Tobiloba, while reacting to the development tweeted, “In pursuit of fame and greatness, they truncate his dream. Why not tell him “I can’t help you” and just advice him and let him be?
“It is better for people to accuse you of not helping than you turn someone’s child to this.”
Another tweep identified as @Sugarmite, tweeted, “They warned people about this Naira Marley of a guy but people still dey close to him, all because of what, exactly? Money and fame?We are our own problem
“I can still swear, there are people out there who are still waiting to link up with him amid all these that’s happening.”
