The death toll from the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday has risen to more than 9,600.
According to Aljazeera, at least 7,108 people have died in Turkey, while at least 2,530 have been killed in Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to visit Kahramanmaras and Hatay, the president’s office has announced.
He will also go to Pazarcik, epicenter of the quake.
He’s declared a three-month state of emergency in the 10 provinces worst affected.
Countries around the world are sending support to help the rescue efforts, including specialist teams, sniffer dogs and equipment.
The first 7.8 magnitude quake struck near Gaziantep in the early hours of Monday, followed by a 7.5 magnitude tremor hours later.
Thousands of buildings were toppled, hospitals and schools wrecked and tens of thousands of people were injured or left homeless in a number of Turkish and Syrian cities.
The region sits on top of major fault lines and is frequently shaken by earthquakes.
Overwhelmed rescuers struggled to save people trapped under the rubble with despair mounting and the scale of the disaster hampering relief efforts.
