Troops of 103 Battalion of 82 Division Nigerian Army on Operation UDO KA II have rescued abducted Dr Maxwell Ayim along Road Four Corner-Agbogwe in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
This was made known in a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, noting that the rescue followed a gun duel between the troops and the gunmen.
Unuakhalu disclosed that the troops deployed at the Udi checkpoint received a distress call on Thursday on the activities of the assailants, saying that the troops responded promptly to the call, leading to the gun duel between the military officers and the kidnappers.
The statement read, “The rescue operation was conducted when troops deployed at the Udi checkpoint received a distress call on the incident. On arrival, troops came in contact with the kidnappers.
“However, due to troops’ superior fire, members of the criminal gang fled in disarray with gunshot wounds into the nearby bushes.
“The gallant troops during further exploitation of the gang’s withdrawal route found the victim abandoned. Troops proceeded to rescue the victim. He has since been reunited with his family after preliminary medical checks”.
The statement said the Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II also called on the law-abiding and good citizens of the state and the Southeast region in general not to relent in providing timely, credible and reliable Information to help the security operatives fight insecurity in the region.
