Troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3, Operation Whirl Stroke, in coordination with the Nigeria Police Force, successfully prevented a kidnapping along the Takum-Jalingo highway in Taraba State.
According to a statement released on Sunday by Acting Brigade spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, the intervention was prompted by a distress call from travelers.
“Acting on a distress call from road users, the security operatives swiftly mobilized to Muji Town, where armed kidnappers had ambushed an 18-seater Toyota bus,” Olubodunde stated.
The troops arrived promptly and engaged the armed men in an intense exchange of gunfire.
Their superior firepower forced the criminals to abandon their captives and flee into the nearby forest.
Two individuals, identified as Mr. Yakubu Usman from Angwan Abuja in Takum and Mr. Godwin Peter from Angwan Dadin Kowa, were rescued during the operation.
“Mr. Peter sustained injuries during the attack and was promptly taken to a medical facility for treatment.
“Meanwhile, the remaining passengers were able to continue their journey safely,” the statement further revealed.
The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army reiterated its dedication to ensuring security in Taraba State and urged the public to provide timely and accurate information to aid in combating criminal activities.
