Nigerian military forces have successfully killed eight notorious terrorists and rescued 16 hostages in a series of coordinated operations across the country.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement shared via its official X account on Monday, confirmed the victories and highlighted the recovery of several weapons and supplies.
The military revealed that on September 22, troops foiled a terrorist raid on villages in Borno State aimed at seizing supplies and logistical resources. During the confrontation, three insurgents were neutralized.
“Troops successfully thwarted an attempt by terrorists to raid villages in Borno and neutralized three of the assailants,” the statement read. Recovered from the operation were a light machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, hand grenades, and 200 rounds of linked ammunition, alongside other materials, including money and phones.
In a separate incident, acting on intelligence, troops engaged terrorists who were escorting kidnapped victims through Uvaha village in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State.
Despite adverse weather conditions, they managed to eliminate one of the insurgents, causing the others to flee, leaving behind 16 hostages.
“Among those rescued were 10 men and six women,” the army disclosed. A follow-up search of the area led to the discovery of grenades and other supplies.
In Yobe State, soldiers also conducted a strategic ambush in Gujba Local Government Area based on credible intelligence, which resulted in the elimination of four terrorists in the villages of Madza and Azare.
The troops seized two AK-47 rifles, magazines, and other items.
The military further reported that security forces deployed in the Federal Capital Territory carried out a stop-and-search operation at Kugbo, Abuja, which led to the arrest of a suspect transporting 178 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition hidden in a bag of flour. A mobile phone and ₦29,000 were also recovered.
“These operations reflect the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism, insurgency, and other forms of crime in the country,” the statement emphasized, urging the public to continue providing useful information to security forces.
The army reassured Nigerians that they remain vigilant and dedicated to ensuring peace and security across the nation.
