The Nigerian military has announced the killing of 96 terrorists during recent operations in the northern region of the country. In addition, 227 suspects, including a notorious terrorist commander identified as Usman Maisaje, were apprehended.
According to The PUNCH, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Buba Edward, Maisaje is a close associate of the wanted terrorist leader Kachalla Boka.
His arrest has provided significant intelligence for ongoing military operations.
“During the week, troops neutralized 96 terrorists, arrested 227 individuals, and rescued 157 kidnapped hostages,” Buba said in a statement on Friday.
He added that Maisaje’s cooperation is aiding further intelligence gathering for the military.
In the Niger Delta region, troops also conducted anti-oil theft operations, recovering crude oil worth an estimated N712 million and apprehending 45 suspected oil thieves.
“Troops in the Niger Delta discovered and destroyed four dugout pits, 48 boats, 52 drums, and 38 storage tanks,” Buba stated.
The operation also led to the recovery of 712,535 litres of stolen crude oil and 76,800 litres of illegally refined diesel, along with weapons and other equipment.
In total, the military recovered 71 sophisticated weapons and over 1,400 rounds of ammunition across multiple operational theatres.
