Tottenham Hotspur have bolstered their defense with the signing of Austrian international Kevin Danso on loan from RC Lens, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent in the summer.
The 25-year-old center-back will wear the number four jersey as he joins Spurs for the remainder of the campaign, reinforcing Ange Postecoglou’s squad.
Confirming the move on Sunday, the club released an official statement on its website, saying:
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Kevin Danso on loan from Ligue 1 side RC Lens, subject to international clearance and a work permit.”
Danso has built a strong reputation as a commanding presence at the back, having begun his football journey in England with Reading and MK Dons before making the switch to FC Augsburg in 2014.
In 2017, he became the youngest player to feature in a Bundesliga match for the club and later had loan spells at Southampton and Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Since his transfer to Lens in 2021, Danso has been a key figure in the French side’s backline, making 128 appearances and scoring four goals.
His outstanding performances in his second season earned him a place in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year, playing a pivotal role in Lens securing a runners-up spot and qualification for the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League.
On the international stage, Danso has been capped 24 times for Austria since his senior debut in 2017 and was part of their squad at Euro 2024.
His arrival at Spurs is expected to provide additional defensive solidity as the North London club aims for a strong finish to the season.
