Tottenham Hotspur has reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to secure the services of 27-year-old forward Timo Werner on loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent by the end of the season.
Werner, who previously played for Chelsea, is slated to undergo a medical in London, with Spurs taking charge of his wages for the remainder of the campaign.
Having already experienced the Premier League during his tenure at Chelsea, where he notched 23 goals in 89 appearances before returning to RB Leipzig in 2022, Werner brings familiarity with English football to his new venture.
With two goals in 14 appearances this season for RB Leipzig, the German forward was notably absent from their friendly against St. Gallen, a development attributed to ongoing transfer discussions.
Leipzig manager Marco Rose has confirmed Werner’s impending move to North London, indicating an imminent shift in the player’s career path.
“It’s right that Timo wants to go on loan. Timo would like to go to the European Championship,” Rose told Sky Germany.
“We wish him all the best and are keeping our fingers crossed for him.”
The deal has also been confirmed by famous Italian football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who tweeted on Saturday, “Tottenham will cover 100% of Timo Werner’s salary until June as part of the agreement with RB Leipzig.
“Medical tests booked; he’s due to travel this weekend in order to be ready for training next week.
“Werner “can’t wait” to work under Ange Postecoglou.”
