President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Monday, January 6, for Accra, Ghana, to witness the swearing-in ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, scheduled for January 7.
A statement released on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed the visit, describing it as a response to Mahama’s invitation.
The statement, titled “President Tinubu to Attend the Inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect John Mahama,” highlighted the close ties between the two leaders and their respective nations.
Mahama, who previously led Ghana as its 12th president from 2011 to 2017, emerged victorious in the December 2024 elections. He takes over from President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose tenure spanned from 2017 to 2025.
Tinubu, who also serves as the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, will join other African leaders at the historic event.
Accompanying him on the trip will be the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and other senior officials.
