President Bola Tinubu has given approval to the appointment of Mr. Olatunji Bello as the new Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission subject to Senate confirmation.
In a statement released by Tinubu’s media aide, Ajuri Ngelale, it was highlighted that Mr. Bello is an accomplished lawyer, administrator, and journalist.
Bello, who previously served as the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, holds a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos.
He also studied Law at the same institution and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2002.
Bello launched his journalism career at Concord Newspapers in 1985, where he served in various capacities, including Group Political Editor, Sunday Concord Editor, and Editor of National Concord.
He was a recipient of the US Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and, in 2001, was named Chairman of the Editorial Board of THISDAY Newspapers.
In addition, he has held the position of Commissioner for Environment under several Lagos State administrations.
Ngelale expressed that the President anticipates that Bello, as the new CEO of this significant agency, will ensure the comprehensive fulfillment of the commission’s mandate to protect and promote the interests and welfare of Nigerian consumers, and to implement measures that ensure the safety and quality of goods and services.
