Gold legend, Tiger Wood has announced that he will be ending his 27-years partnership with world’s largest sportswear company, Nike.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods wrote on X.
Woods went on to write that “there will certainly be another chapter.”
Nike bid adieu to Woods on Instagram, saying “it was a hell of a round, Tiger.”
“Tiger, you challenged your competition, stereotypes, conventions, the old school way of thinking. You challenged the entire institution of golf. You challenged us. And most of all, yourself. And for that challenge we’re grateful,” the company added.
Nike and Tiger Woods have shared an enduring partnership since his professional debut in 1996, notably highlighted by his Masters win in 2019 after an 11-year major tournament victory drought.
Despite losing sponsors due to a scandal, including Gatorade, AT&T, and Accenture, which cost him an estimated $20 million, Woods’ relationship with Nike remained steadfast.
In 1996, Nike unveiled the memorable “Hello World” commercial, inspired by Woods’ entry into professional golf at the Greater Milwaukee Open, where he greeted the press with, “I guess, hello world, huh?”
In 2000, Woods inked a groundbreaking five-year endorsement deal with Nike, valued at approximately $85 million, setting a new milestone as the most lucrative sports endorsement contract of that era.
Over nearly three decades, Woods secured various agreements with Nike, including a 10-year deal in 2013 estimated at about $200 million.
