Three people were reportedly killed while several others sustained serious injuries on Wednesday in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere local government area of Ekiti State when suspected armed robbers attacked branches of two old generation banks located in the heart of the community.
The Spokesman of the Ekiti State Police Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the development.
He said the police are currently in the and others adjoining roads leading to the town.
“It was an attempted robbery, but they were repelled. Even our men and officers of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) gave them a hot chase.
“The police have swung into action, I want to assured you that they will be arrested.”
Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to the community as police officers from different operations have been drafted to the town to return peace to the community.
This was the second time the banks would be robbed, having experienced similar attack in the year 2011.
