The Katsina State Government has initiated a comprehensive 30-day joint security operation aimed at curbing terrorism across 19 key Local Government Areas in the State.
According to The PUNCH, the announcement was made late Tuesday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasir Muazu, following an extensive State Security Council meeting held at the Government House in Katsina.
This meeting, convened by Governor Radda, was in direct response to a recent escalation in bandit activities, exacerbated by the cover of the rainy season and dense crop growth.
The surge in attacks prompted the need for a coordinated security effort to protect vulnerable communities.
The gathering included an array of key stakeholders such as members of the State Security Council, Local Government Chairmen, District Heads, Divisional Police Officers, representatives from the Department of State Services, Heads of Vigilante Groups, Katsina Community Watch Corps Commanders, and officials from the Civil Defence, all representing the 19 affected local government areas.
These areas are Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, Kankia, Faskari, Dandume, Sabuwa, Dutsin-ma, Kurfi, Kankara, Musawa, Matazu, Malumfashi, Danja, Bakori, Funtua, Charanchi, and Batagarawa.
Muazu highlighted the critical resolutions adopted during the meeting, which emphasize a community-driven approach to security.
“The launch of a 30-day sustained operation across all 19 local government areas will involve the combined forces of all security agencies, dedicated to protecting lives and properties,” he stated.
The operation will activate a four-tier security structure, established under Katsina State law, to enhance coordinated, community-based security operations.
Local government councils will be empowered to develop specific modalities for these operations, with a strong focus on local intelligence gathering.
Traditional rulers have also been called upon to use their influence to promote peace, unity, and prosperity within their communities.
Muazu stressed that these efforts represent a comprehensive strategy to tackle the security challenges faced by the state.
“The Katsina State Government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents and will spare no effort in implementing these resolutions,” he added.
The Commissioner also urged residents to support the security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.
“Together, we can build a safer and more secure Katsina State,” Muazu concluded, reinforcing the importance of community cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
