The Federal Government has started gathering information on the people who are being impacted by the current insecurity in various Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development is reportedly collecting the data, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
The goal is to incorporate the victims into all National Social Investment Programs, according to the team leader, Hajiya Nadia Muhammed-Soso, who spoke on Thursday in Katsina.
Hajiya Funke Olatunji spoke on behalf of Muhammed-Soso, the chief of the ministry’s Special Duties Department.
She stated that the victims had had enough suffering and needed support that would change their lives while educating people about the survey.
“It is a fact that insecurity in Nigeria has continued to restrict access to basic services and both affected people and host communities require emergency support and other necessary humanitarian assistance.
“To this end, the ministry whose mandate is to provide assistance for vulnerable groups in Nigeria, has realised the enormous challenges faced by the victims of terrorism across Nigeria and has commenced a pilot phase of sensitisation and survey of the victims.”
The official highlighted the ministry’s programs, which included Conditional Cash Transfer, Grant for Vulnerable Groups, N-Power, National Home Grown School Feeding Program, and Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme.
“The ministry intends to mainstream the victims into all National Social Investment Programmes with a view to strengthening their resilience through social inclusion and provision of durable solutions.” she added.
Muhammed-Soso expressed the expectation that those who benefited from the exercise would take advantage of the opportunity and offer specific information that would help the ministry achieve its objectives.
She stated that the ministry would keep working with all pertinent parties to provide a non-kinetic strategy for countering terrorism in the nation.
She applauded the Katsina State Government and other pertinent parties for their efforts in supporting the state’s terrorism victims.
The government is aware of the sufferings of the victims of terrorism and plans to assist them, according to Mrs. Itoro Moses-Duku, the ministry’s principal administrative officer.
According to Moses-Duku, the goal of the sensitization was to explain to the victims who are primarily women and children, how the ministry intended to assist them and help them find relief from their pain.
