The decapitated body of the late Catechist of St. Clement’s Catholic Church, Lokpaukwu, Chief Clement Umeh, has been buried amidst tears in Umutu Autonomous village, Lokpaukwu-Umuchieze in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday.
The late Umeh was beheaded last Sunday when about 20 gunmen stormed his village home, according to Vanguard.
Sources revealed that the gunmen dragged the catechist outside of his parlour, tied his hands, beheaded him, set fire to his house, and took his head.
As of the time of this publication, there was no information as to what prompted the catechist’s gruesome murder.
The President-General of the Umutu Autonomous Community, Victor Emeh, confirmed the tragedy and said that the facts behind Umeh’s death remained a mystery to the entire people of Umutu and beyond.
Emeh also verified that the police were notified of the occurrence and that officers were deployed to take photographs and video recordings of his headless body and the burned house before his burial.
According to some elderly men from the area who spoke on the condition of anonymity, any compound where such a sacrilegious incident occurred is usually regarded as a bad land, unfit for human habitation, unless certain sacrifices are performed to clean the compound.
