The Transmission Company of Nigeria has successfully restored power supply following a temporary disruption caused by an explosion at the Jebba transmission substation earlier today.
According to a statement from TCN, the incident occurred when a transformer exploded, triggering a disturbance across the national grid.
However, engineers at the site responded immediately by activating the protection system, which automatically opened the busbars to contain the explosion. This quick action prevented a potential fire and further damage to nearby equipment.
“The swift response of our engineers and the activation of the protection system were crucial in mitigating the impact of the explosion,” TCN stated. “This led to a temporary disturbance on the grid, but further damage was averted.”
The company also confirmed that its engineers successfully isolated the faulty current transformer and reconfigured the busbar arrangement.
“Our team at Jebba promptly carried out switchings, isolating the affected transformer, and restored power supply to the station and other parts of the grid,” TCN added.
TCN reassured the public that measures are being put in place to ensure the stability of the grid moving forward.
