The President-General of the Nigerian market women and men association, Chief Folashade Tinubu-Ojo, has harped on the need for sustainable approaches to ensuring food safety in the nation.
Folashade Tinubu-Ojo who was represented by Mrs. Mojisola Odusanya said this during a webinar series organized by PUNCH Media Foundation themed, “Food security, nutrition, and food safety: the role of stakeholders in achieving better health through safer food”.
She emphasized the importance of creating and ensuring sustainable templates which will promote food safety in market places across the nation.
According to her, “Food safety remains important to us at the Lagos market and that’s why we have created sustainable approaches to ensure this”
She revealed that the Lagos Union of Market Women and Men has a structure in place which ensures that market users adhere strictly to measures which are tailored to protect and preserve edibles which are to be sold for consumption.
“In our markets, we have a system which encourages our members to keep a healthy environment which will ensure the overall safety of our products” she added.
She further revealed that the body in Lagos State has set up various approaches to protect the integrity of its consumables.
“We have activities such as pest controls cleaning projects, training and seminars, environment control, sensitization of market women and men on how to maximize our food safety drive” she added.
