Two suspected rival cult gangs reportedly clashed on Tuesday in the Ire Akari Estate of Isolo, Lagos State, claiming the life of a yet-to-be-identified man.
According the PUNCH on Thursday, trouble started in the area when some people suspected to be members of the Eiye confraternity were forcefully taking an unknown resident and the deceased intervened.
The source said the intervention did not go down well with the gang members who reportedly shot the deceased.
It was learnt that the suspects also smashed their victim’s head with a stone.
“The incident happened on Tuesday night, a few minutes before midnight. I heard that some people came to the area to carry someone who was already inside the vehicle when the victim started questioning them to know why and where they were taking the person to.
“The clash between rival cults in this area is not unusual. A similar incident had occurred in the community two months before Tuesday’s incident. This is not the first time these cult people are fighting; they have fought before and killed somebody,” the source said.
The Divisional Police Officer, Isolo Divisional Headquarters, CSP Amodu Nurudeen, while speaking with journalists in an interview on Thursday said he visited the scene of the incident, adding that an investigation into the killing is ongoing.
“I’m aware of the incident. I was there throughout the night until daybreak. No suspect has been arrested for now,” Nurudeen simply said.
Meanwhile, calls to the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, were not taken as his phone rang out on Thursday.
The message sent to his mobile phone had yet to be responded to as of press time.
