The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a suspect, identified as Yusuf Ismail Isa, in the assassination attempt of Senior Pastor, Omega Fire Ministries Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman.
The Abuja command of the NPF on Thursday paraded the suspect in front of journalists.
While answering questions, the suspect stated that they were ordered to assassinate the cleric.
He also added that he did not have enough information about who gave the order as he was merely carrying out the instructions.
“It was a case of assassination, but I don’t have the details about the operation, it was Illiaysu and Alabi that has the full information”, he said.
It was also gathered that while the command has arrested two of the suspects, it is also making frantic efforts to ensure that other members of the seven-man gang are arrested.
Religion Nigeria reported that the convoy of Apostle Suleman was on October 2022 attacked by gunmen along the Benin Auchi Road, Edo State.
The cleric was said to be heading to Edo State after a foreign trip to Tanzania when the gunmen opened fire on his convoy.
Six persons, including policemen and the cleric’s drivers, were killed during the attack.
The cleric, who described the incident as an assassination attempt, alluded to “certain things” happening since 2017.
This appeared to be a reference to the various sex scandals involving him.
He was quoted as saying, “Since 2017, there are certain things that have been happening that I have been quiet about. There are things people don’t know, even though one or two people, along the line, took advantage of that to just come out and say one or two things.”
