Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, made a triumphant return for Galatasaray, scoring twice in their gritty 2-1 victory over Rizespor at the Caykur Didi Stadyumu, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen had missed Galatasaray’s 4-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar in the UEFA Europa League playoffs last weekend but was back in the starting lineup for the clash against Rizespor.
The first half saw him largely uninvolved, as Rizespor controlled possession and created more attacking opportunities. However, he came alive after the break.
Just two minutes into the second half, Osimhen opened the scoring, rising highest to meet Przemyslaw Frankowski’s cross and head Galatasaray into the lead in the 47th minute.
Rizespor later found an equalizer, but Osimhen delivered the winning goal in the 86th minute, sealing the hard-fought victory.
With this result, Galatasaray extends their lead in the Turkish Super Lig standings, now sitting six points ahead of Fenerbahce.
The two fierce rivals are set to face off in an eagerly anticipated derby on February 24, when Galatasaray will host Fenerbahce in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
