America-born Super Falcons player Patricia del Carmen George has announced that she’s stepping aside from football for a year.
The ex-Fenerbahçe SK forward shocked many sports lovers, particularly her fans, with the announcement on her social media handle on Sunday.
“Firstly, I will like to thank Fenerbahçe for the opportunity, about a month ago we came to an agreement to part ways and allow me to to do my rehab at home, I would like to let everyone know that I have decided to hang my soccer boot up and take a break from playing soccer.”
George joined Fenerbahce in the year 2022 from German women’s Bundesliga side, Sportclub Sand from Willstätt, Baden-Württemberg but has struggled to get playtime due to injury.
She continued, “With that being said, I would like to let everyone know that I’ve decided to hand my soccer cleats up for at least a year and take a full break from playing soccer!
“It’s not a decision I made lightly but a decision that I know is right for me and my spirit. I haven’t fully decided if I will try to make a comeback next year. But right now, I’m following my heart. And my heart is telling me to step away.
“Soccer has always been my identity so now I’m soul searching and finding myself outside of the game.
“Thank you, everyone, for all the support, I’ve always appreciated all the support you guys send me way.”
