Super Eagles and Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface, has disclosed that the club have set their sight on winning the treble this season after claiming the Bundesliga crown.
Boniface made this disclosure while speaking with soccernet after their title victory.
The 23-year-old scored the first goal as Xabi Alonso’s side defeated Werder Bremen 5-0 to clinch the German Bundesliga title on Sunday.
The surprise champions clinched the league crown with five matches to the end of the season.
Die Werkself are already through to the final of the DFB Pokal where they will take on Kaiserslautern.
Leverkusen are also targeting the Europa League crown.
The German side already have an edge in the semi-final of Europe’s second tier competition after defeating West Ham United 2-0 in the first leg of their quarter-final contest.
“Of course, we have two [more] important trophies we are aiming at. We are in the DFB-Pokal Cup final, and we are also in the [UEFA] Europa League quarter-finals.
“So it doesn’t stop here. So we have to push hard. We know we won the league, it’s a big achievement for us.
“But we also have two things [trophies] we are aiming at. So if we can have the perfect three, of course we will celebrate more,” Boniface said.
Bayer Leverkusen’s league triumph is the first in the club’s history, and in a season they are still unbeaten in all competitions.
It was also the first full season in the coaching career of Xabi Alonso, a legendary player who had plied his trade in various clubs including Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
