Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, was given a heroic welcome by the fans of South Africa club, Chippa United on his arrival on Tuesday.
Nwabali’s arrival was also announced in a terse message by the Chippa United on their official X handle.
The fans trooped to the Port Elizabeth Airport in large numbers to show their love for the shot stopper.
The club wrote, “He’s Back @NwabaliBobo,” reads the message.
The 27-year-old was one of the top performers for the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the just concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’ivoire.
The goalie conceded four times in seven appearances.
The former Enyimba goalkeper received cash gifts, a national honour and was made a chief in his hometown after the competition.
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Idah Peterside, had said on national television that Nwabali has been warned to stay away from South Africa after he denied the country a place at the AFCON Final.
However, the giant goalkeeper was received by hundreds of Chippa United fans on arrival at the Port Elizabeth airport Tuesday.
Nwabali reportedly took selfies with the fans and joined them in singing the club’s songs.
