The occurrence of an assault on an immigration checkpoint in Sokoto has been officially verified by state’s police command.
The assault by the bandits on the checkpoint situated in the Gwadabawa region of the state transpired during the evening of Friday.
The confirmation of this statement was provided by ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, the spokesperson of the command, during a telephone contact with our correspondent on Sunday morning.
The individual verified that a group of armed individuals, believed to be Bandits, launched an attack on the checkpoint located in the Mamman Suka village inside the jurisdiction of the Gwadabawa Local Government region. As a result of this assault, two immigration officials tragically lost their lives. Simultaneously, a subset of individuals who incurred gunshot wounds were expeditiously transported to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.
He also mentioned that five firearms belonging to the gunmen were documented by immigration officers and were being stored at the state’s immigration headquarters.
Meanwhile, an anonymous driver who witnessed the events reported that kidnappers rushed the Immigration checkpoint along the Sokoto/Illela route at around 7 p.m. on Friday, shot two immigration officers, and abducted others.
Nigeria Immigration Service Illela Border Command Public Relations Officer Bello Mohammed confirmed the attack, saying, “We are currently in hospital please with the wounded, I will give you a call later.”
When called again, Mohammed said, “We are sorting out things to know the degree of the attack and the number of casualties” he said
