At least 16 people lost their lives in a devastating road accident on the Ondo-Ore Expressway at Ajure community, located in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Tuesday night.
According to The PUNCH, the tragic incident involved a head-on collision between an 18-seater Toyota Hiace bus and a truck.
The impact of the crash caused the bus to catch fire, resulting in the deaths of 16 passengers.
However, three individuals managed to survive the accident, sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Ondo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mr. Ibitoye Samuel, stated, “The accident was caused by overspeeding and wrongful overtaking by the vehicles involved.”
He further noted that the rescue operation concluded around 11 p.m. on the night of the crash.
