Nigerian singer Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, has revealed that he turned down a feature request from Simi because she refused to sleep with him.
He stated this in a reply to a tweep who advised that he (Brymo) should be featured on Adekunle Gold’s upcoming album, “Tequila Ever After.”
While responding, Brymo said that he had previously turned down features from both Adekunle Gold and Simi and that he had declined to work with Simi specifically because she refused to “get intimate” with him.
“I also did the same with Simi; I said I wanted to get intimate to create intensity,” Brymo wrote. “I didn’t know they were together, of course.”
Brymo’s remarks elicited a range of reactions. Some have expressed their amazement and disgust, accusing him of sexual harassment and emphasising how guys in the entertainment sector are notorious for demanding sexual favours from women.
Popular social media influencer Daniel Regha, while reacting to the issue, tweeted,” Brymo was first an extreme tribal bigot; now he’s just something else.
“Asking Simi or anyone for their body in exchange of a collab is absolutely disgusting. Glad Simi wasn’t the one who exposed this, cos many would’ve said she has an agenda against men. Brymo needs mental help.”
Another tweep, @Feyisayo, in her reaction tweeted, So all Brymo is saying in a nutshell is that he needs to have sex with these female artists before he can record an intense track with them. What kind of lunatic is that? Does he feel the same urge towards his male artists?”
While @Ferdy also tweeted, “Brymo is a functional crackhead… And that’s something to be proud of. If he owns up to his drug use, He will probably endear more fans to himself, and his misdeeds can be excused.”
A tweep identified as @Lola Okunrin tweeted, Stop hiding what Brymo said under “Mental illness”. He is okay. He is not mad.
“Stop making excuses for him. He didn’t call it “Sex for Collaboration” on purpose; he coined a new name for it just so the backlash wouldn’t be so great. Is that the person you said is mad? E koshi jare”.
Also, @Ebele tweeted, “See what women are seeing in male-dominated industries. Someone wanted to collaborate, and sex was your best litmus test to see if you could work together. And because it’s Brymo we’re speaking of, I’m sure the number of women he’s tried this with is more than the two he’s mentioned.”
