Singer, Ikuforiji Olaitan Abdulrahman, nicknamed Oxlade, has been ordered by a Lagos High Court to compensate Blessing John, the subject of his widely circulated sex film, N5 million.
Recall how Oxlade’s sex tape, which was published on Snapchat in February 2022, went viral without the woman included in the video’s knowledge or consent.
Public indignation over it compelled Oxlade to apologize to both his fans and the his companion.
Justice Olalekan Oresanya referred to the singer’s secret recording and online release of the audio as despicable, awful, nasty, and classless in a ruling dated January 24, 2023.
On March 15, 2022, Blessing filed a lawsuit in front of the court asking for N20 million in damages and a declaration that Oxlade’s act of filming the explicit sexual acts without her knowledge or consent constituted a flagrant violation of enabling laws and a severe violation of her fundamental rights to dignity, privacy, and freedom from discrimination protected by Sections 34 and 37 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Articles 5 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.
Oxlade was warned by Justice Oresanya not to repeat these behaviors in his future sexual relationship(s).
The judge further criticized Oxlade for disrespecting the legal system and claimed that his attorney helped Oxlade insult the court. According to the consent judgment, Oxlade must pay the claimant N5 million in damages over two payments of N2 million and N3 million each.
According to the ruling, she is permanently barred from starting any new legal proceedings or processes relating to the events and circumstances that gave rise to the lawsuit, as well as from starting or engaging in discussions about the problems raised by the claim on any forum and with any third party.
