The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has reported the rescue of seven individuals from a collapsed two-storey building on Cameroon Street, Mushin.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, provided this update, attributing the collapse of the newly completed two-storey building to the use of sub-standard construction materials.
The building’s collapse affected seven adults, three women and four men.
“A newly completed two-storey building suddenly collapsed on an adjoining bungalow as a result of sub-standard materials used in the construction.
“The impact of the collapsed building affected seven adults, three adult females, and 4 adult males,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
“Four adult males and three adult females were trapped but rescued and taken to Isolo General hospital for medical attention.”
Oke-Osanyintolu mentioned that the collapsed structure has been flagged for structural and integrity testing by both the Lagos State Building Control Agency and the Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory.
“Responders at the scene included LASEMA’s response team, LRU Fire unit, LASBCA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, LNSC, FRSC, and NPF. “Responders at the scene of the incident include the Agency’s response team alongside LRU Fire unit, LASBCA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, LASAMBUS, LNSC, FRSC and NPF,” Oke-Osanyintolu detailed.
“The collapsed building has been marked for structural and integrity testing by Lagos State Building Control Agency and Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory,” he added.
