Security Chiefs and the Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun are to appear before the House of Representatives on Thursday.
According to Daily Trust, the Speaker, Abbas Tajuddeen, had on Wednesday at plenary informed that the service chiefs were scheduled to appear today, addind that activities for the day should be reduced to allow for the interaction with the service chiefs and the IGP.
They were invited as part of the sectorial debates introduced by the House Pursuant to Order Seventeen, Rules 1(3) of the Standing Orders of the House.
The service chiefs will speak to the House on matters around the security challenges facing the country and their constitutional responsibilities to ensure the security of lives and property as well as the territorial integrity of the nation.
Recall that the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi Jr, had in a statement earlier informed that the inaugural session was earlier scheduled to commence on Thursday, November 9, 2023 with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, and his deputies but was postponed.
He said the series would provide lawmakers with an opportunity to ask invited government officials questions on areas requiring legislative interventions.
The House spokesperson stated that the ‘Sectoral Debate’ Series was intended to provide political appointees and key government officials an opportunity to brief members of the House of Representatives about the policies and programmes of their respective MDAs.
