Bologna secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Venezia at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo, strengthening their push for a Champions League spot.
The decisive goal came in the 49th minute, courtesy of a stunning strike from Riccardo Orsolini.
With this win on Matchday 30 of Serie A, Bologna maintains fourth place with 56 points, narrowing the gap to just two points behind third-placed Atalanta. Meanwhile, Venezia remains in deep trouble, sitting second from the bottom with 20 points.
The game at the Penzo started with high intensity, as Bologna tried to dictate the tempo, but Venezia remained compact and well-organized defensively.
Coach Di Francesco’s side adopted a low block, doubling up on the wings to limit space for Orsolini and Cambiaghi.
The first real chance fell to Bologna’s Dallinga, who made a sharp run to meet a Calabria cross but failed to convert.
Venezia nearly took the lead when Zerbin found himself in a prime position, only to be denied by a brilliant reflex save from Skorupski. At the other end, Radu kept Orsolini at bay with a well-timed stop.
The first half ended with both sides coming close, Idzes’ header went just wide for Venezia, while Beukema’s effort for Bologna also missed the target by a fraction.
Four minutes into the second half, Bologna finally broke the deadlock. Cambiaghi delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Orsolini executed a superb volley past Radu.
Venezia responded by increasing their attacking intensity, pushing Bologna deep into their own half.
Despite launching numerous crosses into the box, the home side struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.
Ellertsson attempted a long-range strike, but Skorupski was equal to the task, punching it away. Orsolini continued to be a threat, dribbling past Perez before narrowly missing the far post.
Venezia, urged on by their supporters, came close to an equalizer—Busio fired just wide from an excellent position, and Yeboah was once again frustrated by another decisive intervention from Skorupski.
The match concluded with Bologna holding firm to secure a valuable 1-0 win, taking them a step closer to their Champions League ambitions.
