Bologna delivered a stunning performance against Lazio, securing a dominant 5-0 victory that propelled them ahead of their rivals in the Serie A standings.
With just a point separating the two sides before kickoff at the Stadio Dall’Ara, this clash was pivotal in the race for European qualification.
The hosts had a fully fit squad available, while Lazio had to make do without Elseid Hysaj.
Taty Castellanos returned to the bench, and a late setback saw Nuno Tavares withdraw during warm-up, forcing Adam Marusic, who wasn’t at full fitness—into the starting lineup.
Bologna wasted no time asserting themselves, breaking the deadlock through Juan Miranda’s precise cross from the left. Jens Odgaard stretched behind Mario Gila to meet the delivery, volleying home from close range.
Riccardo Orsolini nearly doubled the advantage with a trademark left-foot curler, but Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel produced a superb fingertip save to deny him.
At the other end, Marusic breached Bologna’s offside trap but fired over from a difficult angle. Meanwhile, Gila received a booking for a clumsy foul on Dan Ndoye.
After the break, Bologna came out firing and struck twice in quick succession, just 94 seconds apart. Ndoye turned provider first, slipping a well-weighted through ball to Orsolini, who delicately chipped the onrushing Provedel.
Before Lazio could recover, Bologna struck again. Matteo Guendouzi’s misplaced pass was intercepted in midfield, allowing Lewis Ferguson to storm down the right and set up Ndoye, whose right-footed strike from 12 yards, helped by a slight deflection off Gila, bounced in off the post.
Lazio attempted to respond, with Mattia Zaccagni coming closest as his effort from the edge of the box rattled the base of the post.
Guendouzi made a desperate lunge to prevent Giovanni Fabbian from scoring inside the area, while Alessio Romagnoli was caught off guard when Santiago Castro ghosted in behind him to tap home Tommaso Pobega’s cross.
Pobega had initiated the move by dispossessing Gila, further compounding Lazio’s misery.
Bologna still wasn’t done. Their relentless attack produced a fifth goal, as Miranda lofted a cross from the left for Fabbian, who rose to nod home from six yards.
The emphatic victory ensured Bologna would finish the weekend at least in fifth place, with the potential to climb to fourth if Juventus failed to beat Fiorentina.
