The Nigerian Senate has taken action to investigate the reported incarceration of more than 250 Nigerians in Ethiopia.
The decision came following a revelation by the Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, during Wednesday’s plenary session.
In response, the Senate has directed its Committees on Diaspora and Foreign Affairs to collaborate with the Federal Government in the immediate establishment of a committee.
This committee will be tasked with visiting the Republic of Ethiopia to investigate the situation surrounding the Nigerians detained in the country.
Senator Abdul Ningi, another federal lawmaker, emphasized the necessity of a thorough investigation to ascertain the true circumstances surrounding the incarceration of Nigerians in Ethiopia.
This move by the Senate underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Nigerian citizens abroad and ensuring their well-being is adequately protected.
