The Senate has summoned the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to address the worsening state of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road, a crucial route connecting the South and North of Nigeria.
According to The PUNCH, this decision came on Wednesday after Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North) raised a motion of urgent public importance, highlighting the road’s deteriorating condition and the severe impact on travellers.
“The state of the road has become unbearable for road users. Many are left stranded, and the frequent gridlock caused by articulated vehicles has worsened the situation,” Abdulfatai remarked.
He expressed frustration over the Federal Government’s inability to complete repairs on the road despite over a decade of efforts, noting that accidents and delays have become a daily occurrence.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has directed the Committee on Works to investigate the matter and report their findings within three weeks.
