The Nigerian Senate has started the screening process for seven recently nominated ministers, a move coming after President Bola Tinubu’s major cabinet reshuffle.
According to The PUNCH, the nominees are expected to fill critical roles within the administration, replacing five ministers dismissed earlier this month.
The nominees under consideration include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, nominated as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, slated for Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.
Others are Idi Muktar Maiha, proposed as Minister of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
On Wednesday, at 12:57 p.m., Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele put forth a motion to suspend Senate rules to allow the President’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, Basheer Lado, to escort the nominees into the chamber.
The session was presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who acknowledged the importance of the new appointments.
This nomination process follows President Tinubu’s dismissal of five ministers, including Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (State, Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development). These changes reflect Tinubu’s intent to realign his administration for more effective governance.
