A security guard working for a phone and accessories store in Lagos has been apprehended by officials of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority for indiscriminately disposing of refuse on a road median along Akowonjo Road.
The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the arrest in a video shared on X.com on Sunday.
According to Wahab, the suspect, identified as Andy, is a security officer employed by Slot Phones and Accessories, located at No. 39 Sasha Road, Akowonjo, Egbeda.
“Investigations at the business premises confirmed the presence of a waste storage facility; however, no valid justification was provided for the improper disposal of waste at the road median,” Wahab stated.
He further revealed that the facility manager claimed the company had an arrangement with a designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) for waste collection. However, they failed to provide proof of payment to the PSP operator.
The commissioner emphasized that the suspect is currently facing prosecution in line with the state’s environmental laws.
