More security personnel have been deployed to the flats rented by students in the Sabon Gida community of Zamfara State after two female students were kidnapped on Sunday.
Daily Trust reported that two female students from the Federal University, Gusau in Zamfara State were kidnapped by suspected bandits after they broke into a rented flat in the Sabon Gida neighborhood.
Armed thugs who raided Sabon Gida hamlet in Bungudu imprisoned two civilian security guards in a rented female apartment, robbed them of their cellphones, and then kidnapped two female students from the university’s microbiology department.
About one kilometer separates the university’s main campus from Sabon Gida, one of its host communities. Students once rented houses in the community for accommodation.
During the invasion, the students fled the building out of fear, but after security personnel were sent in, they came back.
The administration of the university has not commented on this. Numerous attempts to contact the university’s public relations officer have been unsuccessful.
Spokesman for the state police command, SP Muhammad Shehu has stated that the rescue operation is still ongoing, and a tactical squad of police officers has been dispatched on a search and rescue mission.
