Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no area in the state is excluded from its urban renewal initiatives.
Speaking during the inauguration of five rehabilitated roads in the Ikeja Government Reserved Area on Thursday, Sanwo-Olu emphasized the vital role of quality infrastructure in driving socio-economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for Lagos residents.
The announcement was detailed in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile.
Titled “No Area Will Be Left Behind in Urban Regeneration Bid, Sanwo-Olu Assures,” the statement outlined the significance of the newly rehabilitated roads, Oba Dosumu Street, Oduduwa Way, Oduduwa Crescent, Sobo Arobiodu, and Sasegbon Streets, which together span 6.134 kilometers.
These latest upgrades build upon prior rehabilitation work on key routes such as Isaac John, Joel Ogunnaike Street, Oba Ladejobi, and Harold Shodipo Streets.
Together, they form a well-connected road network aimed at easing mobility and addressing flooding issues through enhanced drainage systems.
Sanwo-Olu described the initiative as a pivotal step in improving the area’s infrastructure while driving Lagos’ economic growth.
“The rehabilitated roads and drainage systems will mitigate flooding and erosion, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance safety and security,” he said. “This will improve the aesthetics of the environment, increase property values, and ultimately contribute to the growth of Lagos’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP).”
The governor expressed his gratitude to Lagosians for their continued support and reassured them of his administration’s dedication to creating a safer and more economically robust city.
“As we consolidate this mandate, we assure you that we will intensify our efforts to build a Lagos that works for everyone, providing an enabling environment for inclusive growth,” he stated.
Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who attended the event, lauded Sanwo-Olu for his transformative leadership and impactful governance.
“Your work here is a testament to what good governance should be. You have transformed the face of Ikeja as the state capital, and I urge you to continue doing more for humanity,” Fayose remarked.
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Olufemi Daramola, also highlighted the positive ripple effects of the newly inaugurated roads, stressing their potential to enhance connectivity and curb flooding in the area.
In his remarks, Sanwo-Olu called on Ikeja GRA residents to take ownership of the roads and ensure their proper maintenance for long-term benefit.
As part of his administration’s broader urban revitalization strategy, the governor is set to commission another 4.7 kilometers of arterial roads in the Akoka, Bariga, and Gbagada areas on Friday.
