MLagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has advised citizens planning nationwide protests to exercise caution while expressing their grievances.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor underscored the importance of maintaining public safety and peace.
Sanwo-Olu acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to voice concerns over the country’s socio-economic conditions.
However, he warned against any actions or statements that could jeopardize public order. He also highlighted the possibility that some individuals might have hidden agendas aimed at causing disruption.
During a courtesy visit from members of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets and Special Duties, led by Chairman Ademorin Kuye, Sanwo-Olu stressed the significance of constructive dialogue.
He praised the administration of President Bola Tinubu for its dedication to addressing citizens’ concerns through engagement and dialogue.
The governor emphasized the importance of ongoing communication to ensure national stability and strengthen democratic governance.
“We recognize the constitutional rights of citizens to express genuine concerns,” Sanwo-Olu said. “As leaders, we must appreciate these concerns while ensuring that protests do not become a platform for political agendas. Divisive rhetoric and actions should be avoided.”
He reiterated the current administration’s commitment to transforming the country’s economic situation and its efforts to engage with citizens.
“The government is actively working to address grievances and demonstrate its commitment to listening. Bringing all grievances to the table for resolution is crucial. This openness to dialogue reflects the government’s sincerity in tackling issues as they arise,” he concluded.
